Our Commitment
Esther's School works to make estherschool.net accessible to people with disabilities. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, which is the standard most widely referenced for public-facing websites in the United States.
Accessibility is ongoing work, not a one-time project. This page describes what we have done, where we know the site still falls short, and how to reach a person if you run into a barrier.
Measures We Have Taken
The following have been implemented and verified on this site:
- Semantic HTML structure with header, navigation, main, and footer landmarks on every page
- A "Skip to main content" link as the first item in the tab order
- All navigation menus, including the dropdown and mobile menus, operable by keyboard alone; the Escape key closes an open menu and returns focus to the button that opened it
- A visible focus indicator on every interactive element, designed to remain visible on both our light and dark page backgrounds
- Text and background color combinations checked against the WCAG 2.2 AA contrast thresholds (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and meaningful icons)
- Descriptive alternative text on images that convey information, and images that are purely decorative hidden from screen readers
- Links and buttons that make sense when read out of context, including icon-only links to our social media pages
- Animation and motion suppressed automatically for visitors whose device is set to "reduce motion"
- Text that scales with browser zoom to 200% without loss of content, and layouts that reflow down to a 320-pixel-wide viewport
Report a Barrier
If any part of this website prevents you from finding what you need, please tell us. We read every report and will work with you directly to get you the information by another route while we fix the underlying problem. We aim to respond within three business days.
Some documents on this site, including our academic calendars, are PDFs that have not been remediated for screen readers, and our donation and store checkout are operated by Zeffy, a third-party provider whose interface we cannot modify. Call 855-544-4700 and we will provide the same information in another format or complete the transaction with you directly.
